It happens to all of us. Even people who have been playing a long time. What I Have done is to switch to a different instrument. I play bass and synthesizer too. I started on those instruments because I was bored with the guitar. When I go back to guitar I have a new outlook. Plus playing a keyboard or bass is a great learning experience. These days I am playing bass full time and even though I love playing the bass the guitar is my first love. So I am trying to find a new bass player for my band and I will go back to playing guitar. Playing the bass gives me a good understanding of percussion which I use on guitar. A guitar is a percussion instrument when playing rhythm. Pt

Good job Sheli! For fun, try the intro to "Blackbird" (it’s easier than it looks, just keep at it). http://www.aztabs.com/b%5Cbeatles/blackbird.asp Randy

<snip> Well done Sheli! :)  Fingerpicking can sound fantastic, I’d agree with you and advise people to make the step into using this style. The times I’ve been told my playing is improving are the times people have heard me fingerpick! Chris

Hi All. I just want to say, that in the past 2 weeks, I have managed to do a complete turn around in my playing. I think I was in a rut and they say if you do not have a teacher, that will sometimes happen. The frustration takes over and you don’t realize that the frustration is part of the learning process. In the past two weeks, I started to learn to fingerpick. No, I am not polished at it, but what a difference it makes to even just my strumming to be able to do that as well. Changed the complete sound of everything I play for the better. I want to thank Cathy Cowette. She suggested I try it, cuz she heard a little of it in my strumming. (There wasn’t any fingerpicking really, it was just how my fingers were coming back on my up-strum). But she gave me a few websites that were so helpful. If you go to google and just type in "fingerpicking lessons" it’s amazing the amount of sites that come up! Do yourself a favor….to all you strummers out there. Take the next step. Don’t be afraid. KEEP AT IT!!!! It will pay off! — Sheli http://www.yourinspection.com/shelispage.htm http://www.soundclick.com/bands/6/shelianthony.htm
