vintage vs newer Telecasters (string spacing question)

THis was your question, I think. It’s helpful if it’s included. As well, alt.guitar.beginner may not be the best group for this question, as probably a better choice. I like the look and sound of the older Telecasters through the 70’s with the vintage style bridge. The string spacing seems to be narrower on the vintage models though and I find it harder to play because of that. It’s hard to finger one string without hitting another. I don’t have this problem with the newer Telecasters. I haven’t read where anyone else has mentioned this particular difference. Usually people are discussing neck size or fret size. If anyone here plays an older Telecaster I’d like to hear if you eventually got used to the narrower string spacing. IIRC, the vintage bridge uses threaded saddles, and people tended to use different threads, so the spacing actually varied from guitar to guitar. It’s not much narrower, and I never found much difference, but then, I was playing several different guitars every day anyway; you get used to the process of adjustment. -pk
