are they good for playin on classical way?

Question:

I learnt some classical guitar many many years ago. The books I had were from a Latin American master Julio Segreras. The nails of the right hand were to be kept short. You played with nail and flesh. So not all classicists need long nails. Good if you also play piano … or scrubs pots for a living.

they’re intended for folk music, but that means they are usable for playing rapidly..they would probably shred nylon strings though — |/|  /|  |2  |< mehaase(at)sas(dot)upenn(dot)edu

Hi Zolo Allways clasical music was played without nails. Only later they used nails. you better play with your fingertips than with nails from the music shop. You get a better feeling with the strings, and if you get better in the years, perhaps you want to grow your nails. But if you are used to the "plectrum nails" it is very difficult to play with your nails in the future. Playing with your fingertips, is not a problem for any technic, only for the sound. I hope you understand everyting, if not, tell me, I speak a little French, German, Spanish and Dutch. greetings, Peter – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I speak very little english and it is hard to me write that you could > understand, so sorry…. > (for playing on clasical way with fingers) …. > i dont want to play with my nails so i want to use those things(i would buy > them in some music shop) for my right hand instead > of nails. > my quest is :are those things good for playing ,can you be enough fast with > them and dou you recomend > it to me?if not ,why?

Hi,         I think that I get from your headers that you are located somewher in Croatia?  Anyhow, your English is very good.  I doubt that any of us Americans here on alt.guitar.beginner could even fathom writing a post in your native tongue so you’re definitely a giant step or two ahead of us.         I would recommend that you not use fingerpicks.  I’m not sure why you don’t want to use your fingernails, but you get a better feel for the strings if you use your fingers and your nails.           The most common complaint that I hear from guys is that they don’t want to have "girly" fingernails.  You don’t have to grow them out that long at all.  On my picking hand, I keep my nails so that if I look at my palm, I can just barely see a millimeter of the nail past the fingertip.           When you pluck a string, the flesh of your fingertip should contact the string first with the nail only contacting the string as an after thought.  Basically, the fingertip moves the string and the fingernail releases it.  Does that make sense?         Keep in mind that there are some very accomplished players how use other techniques for fingerpicking.  Some have no nails and only use the fingertips, others have dragon talons and only use the fingernails.   Others still, use fingerpicks.           If you must you fingerpicks, I’d highly recommend you look for Alaska Picks.  The way that they fit and feel are much closer to your natural nails.  I use them when I break a nail.           As a side note, for all the ill that I speak about fingerpicks killing your feel for the strings and all, I am a hypocrite in that I do use a thumbpick (Fred Kelly Slick Pick).         I tend to ramble so hopefully this helps more than it confuses!
