Question:

Hey now!!!! I am a Recreation Director in an Assisted Living Home. We don’t show them (the old folks) this newsgroup. It is ancient guitar players secret:) Sheli

I want to hear more about those 18 year olds too! :) Randy

Response:

Sort of like you guys, I have been playing for 27 years but for 26 of them just hacked at it and did not put any effort into learning theory or proper technique. For the last year I have played almost every day, worked on technique, read this NG as well as alt.guitar and learned a ton. I am still a hacker and will probably never be really good, but I don;t give a crap what anybody else thinks, I do it for myself and no one else. My 13 year old thinks I’m good but thats only because he’s only been playing for 8 months, and doesn’t know any better. But I give him credit just the same as all the beginners on this NG. He has caused me to start learning theory and correct bad habits, just as many posting here have done. Experienced and beginners alike you folks are all great, this is a rare NG to be mostly free of trolls, etc. Best regards, Sniffinvinyl – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Mark most of us are in the same boat.  I know enough to fool them, but I > know better.  Some other people think I am a good guitar player, I have some > idea just how much I don’t know.  This place is great to impart my learning > on others, but it also helps me to think and grow in my playing and > understanding. > I’ve been playing guitar for over thirty years and I follow this news > group > in order to learn.  I’m one of those guys who will never be any good on a > guitar, but still can’t put it down.  I agree with Tim that you guys > provide > an invaluable service.  I want to add my thanks to his.  If Tim is old > enough to be my father, it’s probably an activities aid at the local > nursing > home who is doing the posting for him. > Mark

Just had to add my two cents. As a 17 year-old girl, I have to say it is quite nice to find a group that keeps it clean, as well as provide some great insight to musicianship.  Reading these posts has made me very aware of how much I have yet to learn about guitar, but at the same time very excited to learn as much as I can. (Bows to the group)  Thank you. embrace light

Absolutely – I learn every bit as much from this group as I contribute to it. I hope all of you experienced pickers realize what a valuable service you are providing to all us wannabe pickers. This may be one of the only groups around that isn’t thoroughly saturated with penis enlargement – make money at home – and all those sexy 18 year olds that just can’t wait to date me. You guys make it fun to come here and learn and though I have asked some not-so-bright questions, everybody has just done their best to correct me and educate. So, from a guy who is probably old enough to be your father, thanks. Tim

Response:

I second that mate. Great NG full of very genuine people. I have been learning for about 3 weeks now and things are starting to get better thanks to the advice and encouragement from people who post here. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I hope all of you experienced pickers realize what a valuable service you > are providing to all us wannabe pickers. I’ve been playing guitar for over thirty years and I follow this news group in order to learn.  I’m one of those guys who will never be any good on a guitar, but still can’t put it down.  I agree with Tim that you guys provide an invaluable service.  I want to add my thanks to his.  If Tim is old enough to be my father, it’s probably an activities aid at the local nursing home who is doing the posting for him. Mark

Response:

I reckon this is the best source of helpful info about guitar.Everybody on here is always willing to help even when I have asked some pretty dumb questions. The varied opinions are always great & helpful  to read. I am a bit like you Mark I can’t play for nuts although I have only been at it for  a couple of years but I  love "Trying" to  play and learning new things.I am 44 and find my older bones and joints are not as nimble as they used to be but I still enjoy it. My only regret is that I didn’t start playing when I was younger. Cheers and Seasons Greetings to you all. Greg

Mark most of us are in the same boat.  I know enough to fool them, but I know better.  Some other people think I am a good guitar player, I have some idea just how much I don’t know.  This place is great to impart my learning on others, but it also helps me to think and grow in my playing and understanding.
