What Computer program or Book is the best?

Question:

I should have mentioned, yes it is an acoustic not electric, I want to be able to play anywhere, reguardless of a power outlet, and I am into more family oriented songs, ie. Christmas time, Camping. Also does anyone know of some simple acoustic Christmas Tabs? Response:

whoah, dude. I have those three exact same books. That is way freaky. Kinda cool that someone had the same teachers as me, though.

there is a book on the market that has all x-mas songs in tab. i got it as a gift last year. forgot the name but it was some like "christmas songs for the guitar". you can find it at any store with a good book/tab section. i had fun playing highly distorted versions of "silent night" and a real cool single note rendention of "the 12 days of x-mas" which i grunged out. they were for the acoustic and would be real simple for a beginner esp. sinse you aready have the music burned into your memory(its always easier to figure out things you already have in your head!) kirk Before you buy.

You don’t say what kind of guitar it is – electric or acoustic. I reccommend starting off with an electric, since it’s 1000% easier to play and you can progress faster. With an acoustic, you’ll spend the first month just building up your fingers’ muscles and callouses, both of which you’ll lose if you stop playing for more than a few days. Pain in the ass. If you’re too busy to play an hour a day, forget an acoustic. With an electric, I can’t say too much about Richard Daniel’s books. They are really, really good, and focus on the "meat" that you really need to know. Then there are the big, fancy kits with a book, CD’s, maybe a video tape, etc. Any of these are just FINE – the main thing is to get in there and play and start learning that stuff, and don’t be obsessed with finding "the perfect book." Any book will do – Lorijean’s, even – or Mel Bay or anybody else. You’re not going to find some "magic ingredient" in a book – that has to come from YOU, no matter WHAT book you use. What the hell, go down to the store, buy one of those 3-inch-thick "Complete guitar course" kits with books, tapes, CD’s, videos, etc., and GET GOING. Again, though, I’d reccommend an electric and a Richard Daniels book, myself. "The Heavy Guitar Bible" is a masterpiece to learn from. If you study it very carefully, it can take you a couple of years to get through it, but it’s an absolutely rock-solid foundation to build on. Ron M.

I had some friends try to teach me guitar some 30 years ago for about 2 months, I always said I was going to buy a guitar of my own so as to learn at my own pace, well like I said those friends tried for 2 months and nothing since then, now my wife is buying me a yamaha guitar for christmas and I want to learn to play, I am to busy to go out for lessons and tutoring is out, so what I want to know is what if any Computer programs are available to learn guitar from scratch, or what book is most recommended?
