Electric Guitar/Amp
Question:
I have been playing accoustic guitar for the past couple of years. Just for a fun change of pace, I am looking into buying and electric guitar and amp. I am wonder if any of you can recommend models that are reasonably priced. Thanks for your help. Brett

Depends on a number of things, but if you want an inexpensive yet playable electric then the Squier bullets work. I was recently at a local Sam Ash and I am amazed at the quality of the cheap guitars available these days. Gone (thankfully) are the days of having to spend hundreds of dollars on a guitar just to have something that would not have string tension that was tighter than the belts on my honda. I looked at (although briefly) a lot of cheap, decent guitars, especially for someone new. As for an amp, that really depends. I really like the Tech21 Trademark 10, but at $249 I don’t think it’s a beginner amp or something you would want unless you want high-quality sound at low volumes (ie, in your house) and want to pay a price for it. I’ve read a lot of good things about the Vox Pathfinder amp, though I tried one and thought it sounded horrible. But check that out. Also the Roland cube amps aren’t bad. Lots of decent cheap little solid-state amps for under $100 these days.

Your question is similar to asking what car you should buy. Search the archives via "deja vu" and look at the millions of responses to that question. It gets asked about 10 times per week. The answers are always the same.

I’d also look at used guitars and amps. Just make sure they haven’t been modified too much because often the modifications haven’t been done very well. But there’s lots of good used equipment around. I reccomend a yamaha pacifica. Very well built for the money. $200-$250ish. They make a strat and a tele copy in that range. Nice sound, nice tuners, good solid guitar. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I have been playing accoustic guitar for the past couple of years.
