buying a guitar ….

Question:

I’ve purchased two guitars from American Musical Supply out of Paramus, New Jersey and have been extremely satisfied. You can check out their website at http://www.americanmusical.com Happy hunting Jim – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Newsgroups: alt.guitar.beginner > I bought a Yamaha Pacifica 112M months ago, and I’m really very, very > sattisfied with it.  It sounds like you are satisfied with it. Now a friend of mine wants to buy an electric guitar, >too. He wants the same guitar as I have. The problem is that: where I >bought the guitar, they havn’t got a Yamaha yet. So he has to order the >guitar via internet or a catalogue.

None in stock and no immediate plans to get one in stock. >Now my question: Can he buy the guitar, allthough he never played on it – >of course – he tried my model several times – but not the model he’ll >get.

If you mean he will get the same model as the one you have, but obviously a different guitar, then I do not see a problem with buying one without trying it out first. Assuming he is buying a new one, then wear and tear is not a factor. The quality on Yamahas are very consistent, so that shouldn’t be an issue. Though he may have to adjust the action or have someone locally do it and while he’s at it check the intonation. But on an electric guitar with an adjustable bridge and saddle, this should be easy and inexpensive to check and adjust. Just be sure to buy from someone who has good references and is reputable. Check around. I’ve had good luck buying instruments over the internet or mail order. Steve Traub

He should be fine.  Just make sure that the place he orders it from has a good return policy, just in case he’s disappointed.
